Network Countryside Conference of Protected Areas 2012 in Klagenfurt

On 23 February 2012 the "Network Countryside Conference of Protected Areas 2012" was held in Klagenfurt on the topic "Creating acceptance instead of solving conflicts: cooperation processes in protected areas." Agriculture and forestry, road construction, tourism, nature protection associations are all driven by different perspectives and requirements on the topic of "protected areas." This can lead to conflicting interests that negatively impact efficient coordination of said areas. Hence, the conference covers topics, such as participation in protected areas, mutual understanding of stakeholders and "coaching support" for persons in charge of protected areas.

Objectives:

  • strengthen understanding of the requirements of different stakeholders;
  • argue the potential of protected areas for the local population;
  • study approaches to involve all stakeholders in planning and managing protected areas;
  • provide suggestions to improve relations with other stakeholders.
The conference was organised in cooperation with the University of Klagenfurt's course on "Management of Protected Areas."
